We have 29 children in 6A. Our class has eleven boys and eighteen girls. We have children with roots from countries all around the World. The class has been doing fabulous work in subjects right across the curriculum.
Here are just a few things that we’ve been working on since September in some of our subjects. We have been keeping very fit with regular random laps of our pitch, intense indoor gymnastic boot camp sessions and we have a seven GAA sessions with the former Dublin GAA legend Johnny McGee, starting this week. In History we have been learning all about World War 1. It’s causes and it’s effects. The class are becoming very proficient World War 1 experts. They’ve been learning raps on the topic which has been bearing fruit in their classroom performances. The class went to a live performance of a Science magician in the Mill Theatre recently, where live experiments were carried out for us. We’ve already performed for the whole senior end of the school in a science assembly, based on Environmental awareness. The class have been learning about light and the eye also. We are going to take part in the science blast competition as a class in the RDS in March 2020. We will have our own stand and display showing off our science investigations on a topic. In Art we have been taking part in the creative schools initiative and have selected Phillip Tracey, the famous milliner to be inspired by. The children have been working on designing their own hats, which we will show off for the senior classes very soon. In English we have been working hard on report writing with a particular emphasis on Newspaper reports and letter writing. We have integrated this with our World War 1 theme and they have written newspaper reports from knowledge that they have gained in the topic. The wrote letters , pretending that they were writing them from the trenches themselves. The letters were made look very authentic with the little help of some tea bags 🙂
These are only some of the things that this amazing class has been working on. There is plenty more to come….go team 6A! 🙂
We as a staff are going to structure some daily school work for the children. If you have time to engage with it, please use it. If not, there is absolutely no obligation to do so. If you are trying to work from home and have no time to sit with the children, set them the tasks that will make your life easier. None of this work is compulsory!
