On Tuesday ,13th March, Author Don Briggs and Illustrator ( and METNS parent), Naomi Peppard, came into METNS and delivered wonderful workshops to all the classes. The beginning of the session started with an introduction of the book by Don about his stories/poems, where and why he had produced the book and where the money from the sales of the book is going (Temple street Hospital ). Next Naomi showed the children a simple way to structure and sketch a dragon( or any animal). This was done on the clip board and displayed on the screen in hall to show the children the watercolour technique that Naomi has used in the book. It gave the children a fantastic insight into different paint mediums and what affects you can achieve. The whole session gave the children a chance to meet an author and an illustrator and how a book can be produced. The children then asked really relevant questions and learned so much about how to publish a book. We were all enthralled by the amazing artistry of Naomi and thank both Naomi and Don for sharing their talent and knowledge with us all. Their new book ‘The Return of the Dragon’ is in all the junior classes and also on sale at METNS( in the office) for €10. All net profits go to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
Naomi also donated her sketches and two original water-colour paintings of dragons to the school. Míle buíochas Naomi.
