It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of our much-loved former Deputy Principal and colleague, Dolores O’Donnell. Dolores was a treasured member of the METNS community for 23 years, having joined our staff in 1999. In that time, she played a vital role in shaping the school into the creative, inclusive and child-centred place it is today.
Dolores brought with her a rare mix of warmth, vision, elegance and creativity. Her passion for the arts, education and the ethos of Educate Together was evident in every project she led and every child she supported. From creative writing and art projects to the development of our Ethical Education Programme, her influence is felt across every part of school life.
Her dedication to children was remarkable. She had an exceptional ability to meet each child where they were, helping them find their voice and their confidence. Whether through classroom teaching, support roles, or artistic initiatives, Dolores inspired generations of pupils with her kindness, insight and belief in the power of creativity.
Even in retirement, Dolores remained a valued friend and part of our school community. Her legacy lives on through the artwork on our walls, the values we uphold, and the countless lives she touched along the way. We extend our deepest sympathy to her husband Mick, her beloved daughter Éabha, and to all her family and friends. Dolores will always hold a special place in the heart of Monkstown ETNS.
